“With each day that passes, I realize more and more that art is woven into the fiber of my being. Light elates me, color anchors me and creating completes me. In scripture it says, “Your eyes are the windows to your soul.” I take great joy in seeing creation, finding the beautiful in the simple, studying the form of an object and noticing how colors, shapes and light interact with each other to form art all around us and then translating that onto canvas.”
Mixed-media artist, Jill Holland was raised in Baton Rouge, LA and currently resides in Fredericksburg, TX. In addition to being a professional full-time working artist, wife and mother of two, Holland is the founder of the Fredericksburg Good Art Company; which she later sold after 3 successful years of business. She is also one of the original founders and liaison for the First Friday Art Walk, an organization of 14 fine art galleries in and around the Historic Shopping District of Fredericksburg. Her newest venture is The Yellow Door Studio, a community arts education center, where she teaches beginner painting classes, art lessons and workshops. Jill is also the founder and publisher of the 2013 & 2014 issues of The Fredericksburg Art Guide, a 56-page full color publication focusing on the thriving art community in Fredericksburg, TX.
Holland’s work typically depicts hints of landscapes in abstract form, leaving room for the imagination to tell its own story. She gains inspiration from scripture, travels, and in large part from nature. Following no rules, Jill uses a very wide range of mediums, usually mixing them together to achieve a desired effect.
Holland has been painting professionally since she was 21, and has been in numerous individual and group shows across the South. Holland’s paintings have been seen on episodes of Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern and The WB’s Lying Games. Look for her work in the 2014 Terrence Malik film, Knight of Cups, featuring Ryan Gosling, Rooney Mara, Christian Bale, Natalie Portman, Holly Hunter, and Benicio Del Toro. Jill has sold thousands of paintings that reside in private and corporate collections both nationally and internationally.
